Basic Stances
CHOON BEE JA SEH - Ready Stance
Feet are shoulder width apart with arms in front with fists
closed. Feet should be facing forward.
CHUN KUL JA SEH - Front Stance
Shoulders facing straight. Front knee should be bent until toes
cannot be seen. Back leg behind should be locked out. Feet
should be facing forward. Torso should be upright, not leaning
forward. Body weight should be distributed equally between front
and back leg.
HU KUL JA SEH - Fighting Stance
Back leg should be bent, foot pointing to the side. Two-thirds
or more of body weight should be on back leg. Front leg should
also be bent, foot pointing forward, with the ball of the foot
touching the ground. Up to one-third of body weight should be on
the front leg. This would enable the ability to kick off the
front leg without leaning back too far. Arms should be in front,
guarding the upper body.
KEE MA JA SEH - Horse-riding Stance
Legs are approximately twice the shoulder width apart, both bent
as if you were riding a horse. This is the stance used for the
punching exercise, allowing students to concentrate on using
their hips to generate power. Feet should be facing forward.
SA KO RIP JA SEH - Side Stance
Same as the horse-riding stance, but the body is facing to the
side. Arms should be in front like Fighting Stance. This stance
is used for various side attacks or defenses such as Side Punch
or Side Kick.
