Fitness wins the 2010 Community Service Award from the World Tang
Soo Do Association Region 7. The award was presented by the regional
director, Master Mars and by the association grandmaster,
Grandmaster Shin at the Region 7 Championship in Myrtle Beach, SC.
This makes the third Community Service Award given to Twin Dragons
for their efforts. Twin Dragons has performed countless demos and
fundraisers for the Aiken area and has even developed a community
service group called the Dragon Crew. This group has expanded our
service to include lawn care for the elderly, food drives for local
food banks, and fund raising events for the local animal shelter.
Twin Dragons Demonstration Team
The Twin Dragons Demo Team is run by three teenage students who have been on the team for years and have recently advanced to coordinator positions. The Demo Team holds regular food drives for local food banks and for the local SPCA. In addition, the team performs at local school, church and town festivals. Annual St. Jude Festival: The team holds an annual St. Jude Festival and Break a Thon to raise money for St. Jude Children's Hospital. In 2010, the team raised over $2,000 for cancer research. Kick-A-Thon:
The team also held a Kick-a-Thon to raise money for
the South Carolina Children's Advocacy Foundation.
Dragon Crew
In 2010, the Demo Team started a sub-group called the Dragon Crew. This community service group includes some parents and younger students who do not perform with the team but want to contribute to the community. The Dragon Crew runs our children's safety events and has gone out into the community to do lawn work for the elderly. This year the Dragon Crew has performed over 20 hours of community service, not including the Children's Halloween Party and upcoming nursing home visit and fund raising for Helping Hands Children's Center for the holidays. The parent members of the Dragon Crew have given wonderful support and praise for being included in a project that teaches such a valuable lesson.
